ROVER Makes Ordering Georgia Birth and Death Certificates Available Online

May 4, 2012

Certified copies of Georgia birth and death certificates can now be ordered online through ROVER, a new service launched by the Georgia Technology Authority in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Georgia is one of only a few states to offer the online service. The quick and easy process eliminates the need to mail a request or make a trip to a government office for birth and death certificates.

ROVER (Request Official Vital Event Records) offers a certified copy of a birth or death certificate for a $25 search fee, plus an $8 processing fee. Each additional copy of the same certificate ordered at the same time is $5. Most orders take two to four weeks, and expedited processing and shipping are available for an additional fee.

Birth and death certificates can be ordered by authorized individuals. Birth certificates can be ordered by the person whose name appears on the birth certificate as the registrant or by parents, grandparents, adult children, adult siblings and legal guardians. Death certificates can be ordered by the spouse, adult children, adult siblings, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, or those with a "tangible interest", such as a beneficiary or insurance company. Proof of identification is required to place an order.
