Unified Messaging Overview

What is unified messaging (UM)?

Unified messaging is voicemail that makes it possible to receive voice and fax messages in a single mailbox that’s accessible through a user’s desk phone, cell phone, e-mail or Internet-enabled personal digital assistant.

How will I retrieve my voicemail with UM?

Will I get a light or stutter dial-tone when I have a message?

No.  UM will notify you via the e-mail address you designate when you register.

What happens if I don't register?

Your voice mail messages will continue going to your phone number, but you need to register to retrieve messages and to receive notification of any waiting voicemails.  Notification is via e-mail.  If you do not register and designate an e-mail address, you will not receive the e-mail notification, even though voicemails may be in the UM system.
