2022 NASCIO State IT Recognition Awards finalist
The National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO) announced that Georgia is a finalist for a State IT Recognition Award. The winners in each category will be announced at NASCIO’s annual conference on October 12.
Georgia’s submission, Cloud and Taxes, That’s Certain: DOR’s Tax System Migration Project, is a finalist in the Enterprise IT Management Initiatives category. The Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) Integrated Tax Solution (ITS) is an application used to process tax returns and taxes and to enforce tax regulations for the state. Working with Amazon and the Georgia Technology Authority, DOR charted a new course to move ITS to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) commercial cloud and away from on-premises server services. This change allowed DOR to meet industry challenges, and it provided the flexibility to easily scale up or down while avoiding long-term capital expenses.
“We are embracing innovation to help find solutions to real issues facing Georgians and improve their experience when interacting with state government,” said State CIO and GTA Executive Director Shawnzia Thomas. “This recognition once again demonstrates that Georgia is at the forefront of state IT.”
The State IT Recognition Awards annually recognize innovation and excellence in the use of IT in state government to address critical business problems, improve business processes, and elevate the citizen experience. Georgia’s project is among 31 finalists selected across 10 categories from nearly 100 nominations across the nation.
“The Department of Revenue is committed to serving our customers with excellence and equipping our team with the tools they need to fulfill our critical mission,” said DOR Commissioner Robyn Crittenden. “Our agency will be well positioned to pursue further innovations and deliver results because of this vital project.”
