GTA’s Kendra Skeene Named to Top Women in Technology for 2017

March 22, 2017

The Director of Product for GTA’s GeorgiaGov Interactive team has been named to the list of Top Women in Technology for 2017 by StateScoop. Kendra Skeene is among an impressive group from state and local governments nationwide who have been recognized for their contributions to improving government and the lives of those served.

The GeorgiaGov Interactive team manages the state portal, Georgia.gov, and the state’s enterprise web-publishing platform, which supports 78 state agency websites. Ms. Skeene played a major role in implementing responsive design technology on the enterprise platform. Responsive design automatically adjusts a website’s display to fit whatever device a visitor is using and supports the shift toward mobile computing on smartphones and tablets. She also helped lead an initiative to ensure the accessibility of state websites for people with a range of disabilities. The accessibility initiative won a first-place award from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers in 2016.

Ms. Skeene is currently focused on increasing the speed of updates to the enterprise platform by improving processes for lifecycle management. She is involved in a project to enhance the security of state websites, and she took part in developing a series of courses leading to professional certification for content managers of state websites.

StateScoop described the honorees as “…the most hard-working, driven, creative, inspiring and insightful women working in their chosen sector. Together, they propel an emerging movement of excellence in government leadership and growing interest and participation in technology by women.”

In making its selections, the editorial team at StateScoop consulted with IT leaders nationwide, including government technology trade associations, and relied on its own research and reporting.

“I want to extend my most enthusiastic congratulations to Kendra for receiving such a well-deserved honor,” said Nikhil Deshpande, director of GeorgiaGov Interactive. “GTA and the state of Georgia are immensely fortunate to have someone of her skill, insights, and commitment in such a pivotal position.”
