A special appearance by Governor Nathan Deal will highlight this year's Georgia Digital Government Summit, which is scheduled for October 30 and 31 in Atlanta. Registration is now open for the summit, an annual event for both IT and business leaders from state and local governments.

Governor Deal will speak on cybersecurity on October 30 following a panel session at 1 p.m. on the new Hull McKnight Georgia Cyber Center for Innovation and Training, a $60 million facility currently under construction in Augusta. The cyber center is one of Governor Deal's signature initiatives, and during the panel session, the cyber center's founding members will discuss its mission to promote modernization in cybersecurity technology for both the public and private sectors through education, training, research, and practical applications.

The summit will take place at the Westin Buckhead, 3391 Peachtree Road, N.E. The registration fee is $25 for public-sector employees. To register online and view the full agenda, visit the summit website at www.govtech.com/events/Georgia-Digital-Government-Summit.html.

The summit allows participants to learn and share information about new technologies and trends and their implications for government. This year's concurrent sessions include:

  • Security in the Age of Constant Connection
  • Getting Your Data House in Order
  • Turning Data into Actionable Knowledge
  • Optimizing the Workforce and Workplace of Tomorrow
  • The Road to Intelligent Communities

The summit also features two fast-track sessions:

  • Smart Transit and Our Future
  • Citizen Engagement: Think Bigger than Websites and Apps

Meanwhile, keynote speaker Bronkar Lee, in his presentation "Hacking the Learning Curve," will focus on ways to re-energize our approach to acquiring new skills so we can succeed in today's fast-paced, high-pressure world. The summit's second keynote speaker, Roger Duncan, will examine trends such as nanotechnology, robotics, embedded intelligence, and the Internet of Things in his presentation "Energy, Technology, and the Future."

In addition, state and local government agencies will be recognized for their technology achievements with the presentation of the annual Georgia Technology Innovation Showcase awards, and leading technology companies will exhibit their latest products and services.
