CIO Exchange Promotes Collaboration Among State, Local Government Organizations
GTA has launched a new statewide group aimed at encouraging collaboration and partnership among IT professionals in local and state government organizations. The Georgia Government CIO Exchange meets every quarter and features presentations structured to support improvements in technology services.
At the inaugural meeting in March 2019, more than 60 participants from state and local agencies across Georgia took part in presentations about cybersecurity by Sam Blaney, GTA's director of cybersecurity and governance, risk, and compliance; digital government by Nikhil Deshpande, director of GTA's Digital Services Georgia; procurement by Janet Pytelewski of the Department of Administrative Services; and FirstNet, the nationwide broadband network for first responders, by Warren Shephard of Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
In response to participant input, cybersecurity received particular emphasis at the second meeting of the CIO Exchange in June. David Allen, state chief information security officer, opened with a security briefing about the assistance GTA has provided to government organizations after ransomware events. Dean Johnson, GTA's chief operating officer, described the new ISO-as-a-Service offering, through which government entities in need of an information security officer can contract for the services of highly qualified security professionals. Steve Nichols, GTA's chief technology officer, provided an overview of cyber insurance. Peter Blake, director of contracts and compliance, explained GTA's software compliance program and how it can help ensure software is properly licensed, and Mark Albright, product and services manager, discussed various contracts available through GTA for managed IT services.
The agenda for meetings and the overall direction of the CIO Exchange will be determined by participants, who can attend meetings either in person or by Skype.
IT leaders from local and state government agencies in Georgia who are interested in taking part in the CIO Exchange are encouraged to email GTA at [email protected] for additional information.
