Project Management Certification Programs

Project Manager Certification Program

To help state agencies build expertise in project management, GTA sponsors the Project Manager Certification Program. The program is designed to better align traditional project management to state business practices. The program provides the project manager with skills beyond the traditional Project Management Professional (PMP)® credential. The curriculum, assessments, reviews, and coaching – which are provided by GTA staff – have been structured to teach state project managers how to ensure a project delivers a valuable business solution in support of an agency’s mission. There is no charge to state agencies for courses taught by GTA staff.

Participants in this program take one of three tracks to achieve certification.

  • The first track, Georgia Certified Project Manager certification, requires the participant to hold the PMP® credential and have managed projects for at least two years in the state of Georgia system.
  • The second track, Associate Project Manager certification, is designed for participants not holding the PMP® credential or for those wanting a fuller understanding of project management.
  • The third track, Executive Certificate in Project Management, is designed for management personnel who either manage project managers or oversee projects, programs, or portfolios at a senior level in the organization.

For information on how to apply for one of the program tracks, go to the GTA Training and Education web page. For further information, email us at

PM Training Course Completion Policy

To successfully complete the required courses, you must attend the full class and complete the course exam. If you are attending the Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT), you must attend the full class and complete the exam, submitting it per the instructor’s requirements. Not meeting these requirements will result in an incomplete status for the course, and a course certificate will not be issued. You must then register for another session and re-take the course.

If an emergency prevents you from completing the course, be sure to make arrangements with the instructor to complete the course.
