BEYA recognizes Georgia state CIO for outstanding achievement at annual STEM conference

Shawnzia Thomas, Georgia state CIO and Georgia Technology Authority executive director, received an award for outstanding achievement at the Becoming Everything You Are (BEYA) award ceremony during the 2025 BEYA science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) conference held February 13 through 15 in Baltimore.

The BEYA STEM Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes professionals who are shaping the future of STEM.

Ms. Thomas has dedicated over 15 years to integrating technology across various sectors of state government to enhance services for Georgians. Her previous roles include assistant deputy commissioner of the Georgia Department of Human Services, executive director of the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity, and director of the Georgia Secretary of State Corporations Division. 

A native of Macon, Ms. Thomas holds a bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee University and master’s in public administration from the University of West Georgia. She is actively involved in leadership, serving on the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity Advisory Board and National Association of State CIOs (NASCIO) executive committee.
