Two Georgia projects have been selected as finalists for the 2024 Annual State IT Recognition Awards. Sponsored by the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO), the awards program honors outstanding technology achievements in the public sector.

Named as a finalist is the state's Orchard web design system, deployed and managed by the Georgia Technology Authority’s Digital Services and Solutions team. Orchard gives a consistent look and built-in accessibility to the 80-plus state websites hosted on Georgia's official web publishing platform. That consistency promotes confidence and ease-of-use for site visitors seeking information and government services in Georgia.

Also earning finalist status is the Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce dashboards, which present up-to-date numbers of healthcare professionals statewide by county. For example, how many physicians, nurses and dentists operate in southwest Georgia's Dougherty County, further segmented by specialty. The board developed these new data depictions in coordination with the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget and publishes them on the Georgia Digital Analytics Center website.

The award nominations showcase the use of IT to address critical business challenges, better connect residents to government services, and improve business processes. Nominations were considered in 10 different categories. The two Georgia finalists were selected from a pool of more than 100 submissions from states throughout the country. Award recipients will be announced on October 1 during the NASCIO annual conference.

“These projects aim to enhance access to government services and information and provide meaningful data about our state,” said State CIO and GTA Executive Director Shawnzia Thomas. “We are gratified by the national recognition, and we remain committed to using technology to benefit Georgians.”

NASCIO is the nation's leading resource for state CIOs and a prominent advocate for technology policy at all government levels. Its State IT Recognition Awards are widely considered the most prestigious and sought-after awards presented to state government IT executives.
