New AI training helps employees use technology with confidence and care

The state of Georgia and InnovateUS are proud to announce an official partnership to provide training for state employees on the responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (AI). This online learning partnership will provide no-cost training for public sector employees.

The initiative is designed to build practical skills while reinforcing Georgia's commitment to transparency, accountability, and public trust in the use of emerging technologies across state government.

"This training will give state employees the foundation to use AI confidently, safely, and effectively in their daily work. It covers the basics of what AI can do, how to use it, and how to protect sensitive data and organizational assets while integrating AI into workflows," said Nikhil Deshpande, Georgia chief digital and AI officer. "Together we can build the skills, safeguards, and confidence to use AI responsibly while unlocking new opportunities and improving the way we deliver services across Georgia."

Georgia's existing generative AI guidance emphasizes that transparency builds trust, supports accountability, and encourages collaboration, leading to increased productivity, reduced repetitive tasks, and more efficient research. To uphold these values, all AI-generated content must be appropriately labeled and double-checked for accuracy, hallucinations, and bias. The InnovateUS partnership will help employees put these principles into practice with hands-on training and guardrails aligned to Georgia's policy framework.

"We want every public professional to feel confident knowing when and how to use, and not use, AI to serve the residents of Georgia," said Beth Simone Noveck, Northeastern University Burnes Center for Social Change and InnovateUS director. "Partnering with the state of Georgia to invest in its workforce by helping government workers learn how to use generative AI sets a national example for how to build capacity in government and ensure we are using these powerful tools responsibly and effectively to deliver better services and create a more responsive government."

Employees will have access to the "Responsible AI for public professionals" course series. This series, comprising the "Using generative AI in government and understanding risks and building resilience" courses, showcases the practical ways public professionals can use generative AI. The courses also address the risks associated with these tools and how to mitigate them. State employees can access the courses on the InnovateUS and GTA AI learning hub.
